　　社会のグローバル化が進む今、情報科学研究科においては国際的にもトップレベルの研究および教育を推進することが望まれている。本研究科では、研究科発足時の1993年以来、情報科学における指導的人材の育成および輩出を行ってきた。今後の更なる発展のためには、国際的に活躍できる優秀な人材をいかに獲得し、育成するかが重要となるが、この人材獲得に本研究科が大きな優位性を保つことが求められる。2010年4月に発足した国際交流推進室では、世界に広く門戸を開き、国際的人材を輩出する大学院研究科の活動に貢献することを目指して、国際化及び国際交流に関わる種々の支援を行うことを目的としている。以下は主要な支援内容例である。　1.研究および教育の国際化　　世界トップレベルの研究を推進するうえで重要となるのは、教員および学生が国際的歩調に遅れることなく研究を迅速に進められる環境作りを積極的に支援することである。日常的となった海外研究者との情報交換を迅速に行うために、海外研究者の中長期滞在を積極的に支援し、研究の国際化を推進する。また、国際交流活動を支援する外部資金の獲得および留学の重要性を喚起する講演会の実施を通じて学生の派遣留学を積極的に支援し、教育の国際化を目指す。　2.留学生の生活支援　　優秀な人材を世界中から集めるためには、世界に広く門戸を開き、異文化の壁を越えることを厭わない留学生を積極的に受け入れることが重要な要素となる。受け入れの際には、日本の社会事情を十分考慮し、大学外の日常生活でも留学生が不便を感じず快適に過ごせるよう、チューターと緊密に連絡を取りつつ、留学生が安定した生活基盤を作れるよう支援する。　3.広報活動の充実化　　世界をリードする大学を目指すうえで、英語による広報活動の重要性は日々高まっている。速報性を重視して研究成果の発信を行うと共に、留学を希望する学生に大学生活に関する情報を随時英語で積極的に提供する。As the world becomes progressively globalized, Graduate School of InformationSciences aims to lead the way in offering opportunities to advance the top-levelresearch and the highest-quality education. The School has, since its inceptionin 1993, produced many graduates and young scientists who became leaders invarious branches of information science. In the hope of continuing the successof the past years, we anticipate the need to put much emphasis in attracting good candidates who wouldlater prove to be effective leaders in the global stage. The International Liaison Office was created in April2010, with the aim of facilitating the influx and the outflux of people from all over the world, which in turn,stimulates the scientific environment of the School. We illustrate below some activities the InternationalLiaison Office has been undertaking.　1.Creating international interfaces with researchers and students from abroadI n maintaining the top-level quality of research, it is essential to have the environment where both the faculty and the students haveeasy accesses to the information and the knowledge that are constantly updated across the world, and where they can then engage inthe respective investigations in a timely manner. In particular, we institute an exchange program where foreign researchers can visit theSchool for an extended time, which then encourages the flow of ideas and information in and around the School. Toward globalization andinternationalization of education, we promote studying abroad with external funding sources for international exchange programs, andprovide support for students who are planning to study abroad. We also plan lecture series which are very effective for students to understandimportance and value of studying abroad.　　2. Helping students from abroad in settling down in Japanese communities.In establishing a hub of talents and ambitions, it is important to prepare a willing receiving ground of many mutually different cultures. Withthat goal, we make sure that there will be a smooth transition inthe process of settling down as a member of the School for eachstudent. We try to realize this with the cooperation of the tutorsassigned to each student taking various social factors particular toJapanese life styles in considerations in and outside the universitysetting.　3. University open to the worldWith the goal of becoming a leading university of the world, weare well aware of the growing importance of publicity through theEnglish language.
